Lakeside Bank “Made a Difference” in North Lawndale on October 27th

In Honor of Make a Difference Day, the largest national day of helping others, thirty Lakeside Bank employees, their families, and customers volunteered in North Lawndale, one of the most challenged communities in Chicago, in partnership with the Lawndale Christian Development Corporation (LCDC) on Saturday, October 27th. Volunteers landscaped and painted the interior common areas at the Lazarus (3958-3946 W. 19th St.) and Tabernacle (1865-67 S. Springfield) apartment buildings.

To make this a true community project, Lakeside Bank was able to coordinate the donation of many of the supplies necessary for this project from generous customers of the bank. Colonial Brick donated all the brick pavers for the project, and Pinto Construction donated all the paint. Town and Country Landscape Co. donated the peat and compost, manure, and sand. Volunteers brought paint brushes, rollers, and paint trays to help cut costs.

Lakeside Bank has been working closely with LCDC by providing the construction financing on one of LCDC’s new affordable housing developments, Gideon Homes.

“Lakeside Bank reinvests 100% of our deposits and provides additional support into the communities we serve. We were thrilled to be part of a project and organization that is revitalizing a community and transforming lives,” said David Pinkerton, volunteer, and Executive Vice President of Lakeside Bank.

Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. Millions have participated. Each year in April, hundreds of good deeds done on Make A Difference Day are selected for honors, headlines and charitable donations. Paul Newman and the Newman's Own Foundation provide $10,000 donations to the charities of each of 10 national honorees. Visit www.makeadifferenceday.com for more information.

Lakeside Bank has six branches to service the needs of the community: Near North (55 West Wacker), Board of Trade (141 West Jackson), South Loop (2141 South Indiana), Chinatown (2200 South Archer), Near West (1055 W. Roosevelt), and Lakeview/Lincoln Park (2800 N. Ashland). Visit www.lakesidebank.com for more information.

LCDC was established in 1987 by Lawndale Community Church to bring holistic revitalization to the lives and environments of Lawndale residents through economic empowerment, housing improvements, educational enrichments and community advocacy. It’s vision is to be a developer and manager of community-enhancing residential and commercial properties; a partner for educational excellence; and a catalyst for community revitalization in the North Lawndale community.
